Alan Cohen Experience on CNN!

Press on Eat the Peace

"This is piano-laced and hippie-friendly southern driven rock and roll that also parallels Phish at their happiest moments. It’s happy-go-lucky storytelling about every free-loving individualist’s favorite subjects: peace, love, train rides, and truck drivers. The lava lamp torch should instantly be passed down to Mr. Cohen."

Press on Revolutions

"Imagine a beat poet inspired by the offbeat instrumentation of They Might Be Giants with the informativeness of a School House Rock! song and you’ll start to imagine what Alan Cohen has in store for you…"
-Mainstream isn’t So Bad…Is It?

"Alan Cohen is a strange fellow. Equal parts beat poet and folk musician, and on ‘Revolution’, his debut album, he manages to combine both, and in doing so, makes folk music ‘cool’ (yeah, I know the songs are great and easy to sing along with and always make you smile) even though everyone secretly kind of likes folk music…well, most people do. Uh, some people do. Fine, it’s just me that likes folk music. But it’s never been what you would normally call cool. Until now, as Alan Cohen (why he bothers with both ‘The’ and ‘Experience’ is beyond me, as it’s just one dude, so surely he should just use his name right?), breathes new life into the genre. Imagine a cool version of a late sixties Paul Simon dragged kicking and screaming into 21st century, and that’s The Alan Cohen Experience in nutshell. Kinda cool huh? Well, I think he is…So there."

THE ALAN COHEN EXPERIENCE: AN INTERVIEW
"The other day when I signed onto MySpace, there was a friend request from someone named The Alan Cohen Experience. I quickly accepted and found out that Alan Cohen is a man with a basement studio and a wealth of stories to tell. He was kind enough to grant me a phone interview. We talked about the music industry, revolutionary thought, Ned Ludd, and of course Cohen’s formidable kazoo prowess. Alan Cohen lives and works in Boston…"

Anti-Folk
"Alan Cohen, a graduate of High School South, Class of 2001, recently released “Revolutions,” a solo album recorded a few years ago. A member of Family Junction Band, he lives in Boston, where he owns and operates an audio and video production company, and focuses on his music. Cohen, who used acoustic guitars and an upright bass, did the string arrangements and performances."
-West Windsor & Plainsboro News

Portrait of the Artist | Alan Cohen
"Today, Cohen cites Duke Ellington as one of his main inspirations, due to Ellington’s approach to music and composing. 'He didn’t limit himself. All his songs are all over the spectrum; he let his creative juices flow,' Cohen said." In his own music, Cohen tries to use a similar approach, aiming to create something unique each time he plays, whether alone or with his band. He said, 'A lot of bands get caught up in the mentality of ‘their sound.’ It’s very limiting. We’re doing the opposite of that, because if you don’t set limitations, you can go anywhere..."

No Capella Here
"...there is no lack of more bizarre tracks. Take, for example, Alan Cohen’s remarkable “Osiko,” which begins with a Japanese mantra before suddenly stopping and launching into a chorus of hums. It’s the kind of wild experiment that shouldn’t work but somehow, inexplicably, does, making it all the more impressive…"

Jumbo Audio Project Provides Eclectic Taste
"…finally, the CD concludes with an ultimately uplifting and heartening tune by Alan Cohen. You can’t help but like “Locked Up (The Cookies Song)” with lyrics like “There’s too much hate in the world, but not too much cookies…”
